Monash University has been rated 10th in Australia for graduate employability in the latest QILT employer satisfaction survey (ESS), scoring an overall satisfaction rate of 86.9 per cent – above the national average of 84.7 per cent.
The 2021 QILT ESS compiles the survey results of 3,450 employers about the attributes of recent graduates from Australian higher education institutions, including universities and non-university higher education institutions (NUHEIs).
Overall satisfaction reports the answer to the question: “Based on your experience with this graduate, how likely are you to consider hiring another graduate from the same course and institution, if you had a relevant vacancy?”.
Alongside its high overall employer satisfaction score, Monash rated highly on:
- Foundation skills – general literacy, numeracy and communication skills and the ability to investigate and integrate knowledge (94.5 per cent);
- Adaptive skills – the ability to adapt and apply skills/knowledge and work independently (91.1 per cent);
- Collaborative skills – teamwork and interpersonal skills (90 per cent);
- Technical skills – application of professional and technical knowledge and standards (94 per cent); and
- Employability skills – the ability to perform and innovate in the workplace (89 per cent).
The QILT survey summary says the results confirm the findings of earlier surveys that “supervisors rate their graduates highly”, and “suggest employers are highly satisfied with the overall quality of graduates from Australia’s higher education system”.
Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said the results provided strong evidence that Australia’s higher education sector produces high quality employees.
“This survey confirms the value of a Monash degree in giving graduates the necessary skills to join the workforce and make significant contributions that are recognised and valued by employers,” Professor Gardner said.
