Monash ranks 40th globally in US News and World Report 2022 Best Global Universities Rankings

Demonstrating the strength of its academic research performance and global and regional reputation, Monash also retained its rank of 4th in Australia in the annual ranking of 1,750 institutions from across the globe.

In addition, the University achieved outstanding results in a number of subjects, including ranking 2nd in the world – up two places – and 1st in Australia in Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Monash Economics and Business ranked 1st in Australia and rose nine places to rank equal 17th globally.

Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said Monash’s increase of eight places was a significant result, as the USNWR is a competitive ranking based on high quality academic research output and international collaboration.

“These results are testament to Monash’s academic staff and the University’s global research excellence,” Professor Gardner said.

“Retaining a top-50 position for the second consecutive year reinforces our place among the world’s top institutions.”

To produce the 2022 rankings, US News took the 250 institutions featured in Clarivate’s Academic Reputation Survey, and added an additional 1,599 institutions that had published more than 1,250 papers between 2015 and 2019. From here, the top-scoring 1,750 universities were ranked by 13 indicators that measure their academic research performance and their global and regional reputations.

The results follow Monash’s strongest-ever performance in the 2022 THE World University Rankings released earlier this year, ranking 57th globally.
