University of Adelaide subjects rated among the world’s best

The University of Adelaide has again cemented its place among the world’s top-performing universities, with the release of the 2023 QS World University Subject Rankings.

The latest rankings saw the University of Adelaide score in the top 100 in 14 diverse subject areas, retaining its position among the top one per cent of universities globally and one of the nation’s best performing educational institutions.

“There are more than 10,000 universities world-wide. To have 14 subjects in the world’s top 100 is a strong achievement for the University of Adelaide and reinforces why our University is a magnet for highly talented researchers and students alike,” said Professor John Williams AM, Acting Vice-Chancellor and President, University of Adelaide. 

“We pride ourselves on our academic excellence. These results reflect the hard work of our talented team of teachers and researchers who dedicate their time to educating future generations of leaders.”

The QS World University Subject Rankings are released each year to identify leading universities across the globe in a range of 54 subjects.

Professor Williams said he was particularly pleased to see the subject of Classics and Ancient History move into the top 100 for the first time in the University’s history. Life Sciences and Medicine was the strongest field for the University, with high rankings also achieved for subjects in the Natural Sciences and Engineering and Technology areas.

  • Geology
  • Geophysics
  • Development Studies

The University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Anton Middelberg, added:
