Rice among nation’s top 20 universities in US News rankings

Rice is named one of the nation’s top 20 universities in the 2022 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” guidebook.

Rice ranks No. 17 in the magazine’s annual survey of more than 300 colleges and universities, tying with Cornell University and marking yet another year in which Rice has rated in the top 20 since first appearing on the list in 1988.

Rice also landed at No. 5 on the U.S. News list of the nation’s best values for higher education, up from No. 8 last year. The university’s undergraduate teachers are also rated among the nation’s best, ranking No. 6. Rice remains the No. 1 university in Texas.

Rice also ranked among the top 20 institutions on the U.S. News lists for best undergraduate biomedical engineering (No. 11), ethnic diversity (No. 14), most innovative (No. 16), best undergraduate research (No. 17), best learning communities (No. 18) and best undergraduate engineering programs among schools offering doctorates (No. 19).

U.S. News is the latest in a series of media outlets to name Rice as one of the nation’s top institutions of higher learning. The Princeton Review recently ranked Rice among the most acclaimed universities in the three-decade history of its annual survey of the nation’s best colleges. Meanwhile, Rice landed at No. 7 in Niche’s 2022 ratings of the best colleges in the U.S., scoring an “A+” grade and ranking No. 4 on its “best professors” list and No. 10 on its list of “best college campuses.”

The U.S. News rankings are one of the most closely watched indicators of excellence among the nation’s colleges and universities. For its latest edition, U.S. News says it assessed 1,466 bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality.
