Nine outstanding student works have been named as the winners of the “Love in the Time of A Quiet Earth” short mobile phone film and animation competition organised by the Academy of Film (AF).
The winning entries touched on various topics, including caring for the underprivileged, having fun while confined at home, and reminding the public to maintain personal hygiene. Overall, the submissions reflected the thoughts and emotions of participating students throughout the COVID-19 outbreak.
The competition included a film category for secondary school students, a film category for AF students, and an animation category for post-secondary institutions.
Tsang Long-kit, one of the winners of the secondary school category, produced the short film Hike at Home. It is about a young man under home quarantine who can only dream about hiking adventures at night. The story also reflected Long-kit’s desire to go outside during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Professor Eva Man, Director of AF, said: “In view of the outbreak, participants of the competition faced limitations due to social distancing and a lack of manpower and equipment. Nevertheless it is delightful to see that they can still produce meaningful works from their surroundings in a flexible and resilient manner.” She also said that the competition showed that creative minds can transcend any environmental constraints.
