HKUST Students Win the First Hong Kong — France Social Innovation Prize

We are delighted to announce the student team from HKUST has won first place in the first edition of the Hong Kong — France Innovation Prize.

Global thinking and local solutions are key to solve some of the most complex sustainability issues today. The Hong Kong — France Innovation Prize was launched this year by the Consulate General of France in partnership with Baptist Oi Kwan Social Services to empower today’s youths by tackling social and environmental issues through viable business models, digital solutions, and inclusive initiatives.

Out of 100 applications submitted by over 300 students, ten shortlisted teams were invited to present their projects at the final stage of the competition in June. The winning HKUST team’s presentation focused on the idea of attaching air purifiers to street lamps to tackle air pollution in densely populated cities like Hong Kong. The jury, which consisted of local experts in social innovation and enterprise, was impressed by the project for its practicality and relevance to Hong Kong.
